Department Overview:

Clean Energy

The Capital Dynamics Clean Energy (CE) team makes direct equity investments in carbon-reducing renewable energy power generation from late-stage development to commercial operations. Capital Dynamics is one of the largest managers of U.K. onshore wind assets and subsidy free solar PV in Europe, and has a growing footprint in the U.S. The team strives to achieve enhanced value from de-risking projects from the end of their development phases and optimizing performance and capital structure into commercial operations.

Role Purpose:

Capital Dynamics seeks to hire an Associate to join our Clean Energy Investment team in Chicago. You will be a core member of the investment team focused on managing Capital Dynamic’s U.S. portfolio of assets as well as acquiring assets, building financial models, conducting due diligence on new opportunities, and liaising with all stakeholders relevant to the funds (including consultants, advisors, investment committees, etc).

You will support work streams on transactions during the due diligence phase of a deal, while also supporting on-going valuations, reporting to investors, capital raising and on-going asset management of the current portfolio.

Key task and responsibilities:

• Assist in the management of current clean energy assets in the U.S. including the sale process.

• Preparation of automated financial models and conduct financial sensitivities were appropriate.

• Assist in the drafting of investment committee memorandums which will be used in making investment and disposition decisions.

• Provide support through the due diligence process during acquisitions or execution process during divestitures.

• Provide support in the financing activities of investments.

• Conduct market analysis and research to support the Team’s investments decisions.

• Work with the Asset Management team to monitor and optimize investment performance post-acquisition.

• Work with the Business Development – Sales (BD) teams and Product Development & Strategy (PDS) teams to help respond to investor requests.

Key competencies:

• Highly analytical and quantitative competencies are required. Financial analysis, modelling, valuation experience is a plus.

• An understanding of the legal framework and documentation typical of a direct investment.

• Exceptional attention to detail with ability to produce high quality work.

• Project management and presentation skills combined with multi-tasking abilities.

• Self-starter with ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently, having regard to changing priorities, differing time zones and geographies.

• Strong sensitivity to confidentiality, reliable and trustworthy, team player.

• Some understanding of the legal framework and documentation typical of primaries investments is preferable.

• A keen interest in Responsible Investment (RI) / ESG and targets such as the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals or willingness to learn more about this area is highly desirable.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier university / college, and preferably an MBA from a top 20 business school.

• 3 to 4 years investment banking or asset management experience, preferably in renewables / clean energy infrastructure.

• Good understanding of accounting, finance, company valuation and, ideally, asset management.

• Knowledge and / or keen interest in renewable power development.

• Extensive practical working knowledge of financial modelling.

• Good working knowledge of modelling of debt financing.

• Working knowledge of financial analysis ratios such as yield, IRR’s and NPV’s.

• Good working knowledge of the support frameworks for renewables.

• Sound investment judgment with a keen awareness of risk, return and exposure management.

• Exceptional proficiency MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Excel.

Language skills:

• Must be fluent in English and display superior verbal and written communication skills.

• Additional language skills – Italian, Spanish, Japanese, South Korean etc. is desirable.

Remuneration:

• This role will offer a base salary in the region of USD 135,000 to 145,000 per annum, plus bonus.

• Base salary offered will depend on the level of experience the candidate is able to bring to the role.

• This is an office-based role, working out of our Chicago location a minimum of 3 days per week.

• Candidate must be able to travel to our Chicago office for in-person interviews.
