Department Overview:

Private Equity – Co-Investment

Global co-investment typically makes investments in mid-market companies alongside established lead investors and specialist sponsors who have a history of strong performance, relevant sector expertise, consistent strategy and execution, and whose teams have shown that they can invest successfully through different economic cycles.  The co-investment team invests in companies in North America, Europe, and the rest of the world, particularly developed Asia.  Companies sought have sustainable competitive positions, strong growth opportunities and high ESG standards. While sector agnostic, preferred industries include consumer, healthcare, technology, and business services and, to some extent, industrial companies and those in the energy and power markets.

Role Purpose:

Capital Dynamics is seeking an Associate to join our Co-Investments team in the New York office. The Investment Associate will support the team in performing analysis, due diligence and monitoring of direct investments, as well as periodic valuation, reporting and other functional areas as needed.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a junior investment professional with proven financial, analytical and communication skills and experience in the alternative investment sector.

Tasks and Resposibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Investments and Due Diligence:

• Participate in direct investment selection, fund portfolio management and reporting.

• Undertake due diligence on prospective investments including financial statement analysis, sensitivity testing, development of various investment cases, market assessments, reference calls, meeting lead sponsors and management, and preparation of co-investment memoranda for investment committee review and consideration.

• Work in conjunction with primaries team to develop relationships with financial sponsors in order to help source investment opportunities.

• Review transaction documentation: prepare closing certificates, valuation analyses and the periodic reports (commentary and numerical data) used to communicate with fund investors.

• Support fundraising efforts including preparation of marketing documents and communication with investors.

• Attend general partner annual meetings to establish external presence.

• Complete one-off projects as they may arise from time-to-time.

Background and experience:

• Highly analytical and quantitative competencies are required. Financial analysis, modelling, valuation experience is a plus.

• An understanding of the legal framework and documentation typical of a direct investment.

• Exceptional attention to detail with ability to produce high quality work.

• Project management and presentation skills combined with multi-tasking abilities.

• Self-starter with ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently, having regard to changing priorities, differing time zones and geographies.

• Strong sensitivity to confidentiality, reliable and trustworthy, team player.

• Some understanding of the legal framework and documentation typical of primaries investments is preferable. 

Education and qualification:

• A Bachelor’s degree from top-tier institution with a strong GPA.

• 2 to 4 years’ relevant experience in private equity (direct and/or co-investments), investment banking (M&A), consulting or a related field.

• Highly developed quantitative skills, strong financial modeling and writing skills (financial analysis, modeling, valuation, and reporting).

• Sound investment judgment with a keen awareness of risk, return and exposure management.

Language skills:

• Must be fluent in English and display superior verbal/written communication skills

• Fluency in another European language –Italian, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, South Korean etc. is desirable

Remuneration:

• This role will offer a base salary in the region of USD 125,000 to 135,000 per annum, plus bonus.

• Base salary offered will depend on the level of experience the candidate is able to bring to the role.

Further notice:

• This is an office-based role, working out of our NY office (Madison Avenue) location a min of 3 days per week.

• Candidate must be able to travel to our New York office for in-person interviews.

• Please note, we are not able to offer a relocation support or travel allowance to attend interviews in person.
