Barney Coles, Managing Director and Co-Head of Clean Energy, was interviewed in the third issue of Room 151's Private Markets Profile Report about the growing opportunities of investing in UK infrastructure.
The UK government has recently stated its desire to see more institutional cash going into UK infrastructure. The cover story of this report investigates the shift in strategy to understand the investment opportunities that pensions schemes have on investing in domestic infrastructure.
“These initiatives provide investors with cashflow stability, and there are commitments to upgrades in grid infrastructure that will facilitate a more timely delivery of green generation capacity” said Barney Coles.
While Barney acknowledges the relative scarcity of projects, he confirms that UK infrastructure is an attractive asset with a positive future.
"To meet its net zero targets, the UK will need to almost double its renewable energy capacity by the end of this decade, and attract £70bn of funding to do that. That has led the government to commit to a more supportive policy agenda” continued Barney.
